My imaginary hometown/ Mi imaginaria procedencia

Voy a confesar.

I will confess. I've never been a person of roots, that is, I do not feel so rooted to a place I never would move from there, and I don't feel in my heart a great sorrow when I move away my land, neither a wish of returning soon. I haven't got to know why, despite I have not wondered either, but I do know that I love the idea of visiting all places and the idea of living in them even more, like a sponge absorbing other cultures, languages and customs. The roots I feel are on moving things, these are the people I love. As for the rest, I find anything is permanent.

Perhaps that is why I ever imagined what it would have been to be born in another country, even in another era. These would be my imaginary origins or where and when I would have been raised:

California, USA, in the 60's of twentieth century. I would have to be at least 20 or 25 years-old, so I would have to have been born in the 40's. Being part of social change, the hippie movement, the rise of surfing...

New York, fifties of the twentieth century. Living the women's revolution, and their struggle to integrate into men's working world.

Morocco, 40's of twentieth century. Being European, living in exile in Tetuan or Tangier, before the declaration of independence. (You know that my grandmother was born there and lived that time? Also my mother was born there but grew up somewhere else).

Paris, 90's of twentieth century. And being a fashion photographer! Having lived this aesthetic revolution from behind the camera, and witnessing how a handful of women getting through her beauty (yes, I know that was the door), but thanks to his intelligence, being paid first over men in their same profession. All women are beautiful, and the smarter ones know how to look it even more.

Kyoto, early nineteenth century, and being a man. To marvel at the beauty and the various skills in Japanese arts, music, dance and narration of the "geisha machi" (the ones in town), and the female ones, because don't know if you know that the first geisha were men, and disappeared when the women exceeded number over them.

Ranchi, India, 1900.
Ranchi, India, 1900. So that when Paramahansa Yogananda in 1918 moved his school there, where he combined modern teaching with teaching yoga and spiritual ideals, I would have been a child and very close to his school. Yogananda was a very important propagator of yoga in Occident.

Londres, 1910.
London, 1910. Because maybe this way, I would have the chance to meet Mary Poppins and would have been able to learn once and for all the trick of tidying up with a snap!

Y vosotras/as?
What about you guys? Have you ever imagined how it would have been living in other time or place?

Y me encantan tus otras ideas, escritores+BBC+style! yay!
